About Kitchener-Waterloo's Oktoberfest

Come Blow Your Horn at K-W Oktoberfest!

Gemuetlichkeit!

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest is a community based Bavarian festival that is committed to contributing to the social and economic vitality of its community.  The continued success of this Festival will ensure the preservation of its unique German heritage which ultimately promotes appreciation and acceptance of all cultures.

Language

Simple German phrases required in order to wade through the parade, polkas and pilsners you will encounter for the week:

Ein Prosit: very simply, "Cheers" - this should be pronounced with much gusto while attempting to clink your glass of beer without sloshing the contents of your neighbours.
Wunderbar: literally meaning "wonderful" and can be applied to just about everything you expereince during Oktoberfest - the food, the drink, the person sitting on your lap at one o'clock in the morning.
Zicke Zacke Zicke Zacke Hoi, Hoi, Hoi: untranslatable - Just join in, loudly

Clothing

The traditonal Dirndl (refers to both the girl and the dress) is guaranteed to enhance nature's bounty.
Ledehosen, a nippy Canadian October may prove to be a bit cold for strolling about in these leather shorts with suspenders.
The wise reveller, therefore, usually dons the longer Knickerbocker for the outdoor festivities.
But you can simply wear your Oktoberfest hat and a huge grin and you'll fit right in.
